Digital Atlas of Indonesian History
$60.00 SGD
by Robert Cribb
There was much praise for Cribb's "Historical Atlas of Indonesia". However, many were disappointed that a paperback edition did not follow. This is remedied with the publication of the "Digital Atlas of Indonesian History", which is based on the historical atlas but includes more than 100 new maps plus a huge array of other material. Bundled with an 80-page user guide, the DVD includes nearly 500 maps, each output as low-resolution JPEG images suitable for use in classroom teaching (e.g. using Powerpoint) and as high-resolution colour and B&W PDF files suitable for royalty-free reproduction by scholars in their own publications. In addition, there is a fully interactive website of Indonesian history with maps and text plus scans from the 10th edition of W. van Gelder's 'Schoolatlas van Nederlandsch Oost-IndiA'. The DVD also offers stable internet links to historical maps of Indonesia that are available online. Like its printed predecessor, the 'Digital Atlas' is a monumental work that will prove itself to be an essential resource for scholars and teachers of Indonesian history.
The Digital atlas of Indonesian history can serve as a valuable and useful resource for a very wide audience, for teaching, as a basis or contributing spatial dimension, for research for an enormous range of disciplines at different levels, or just as a volume to browse out of pure interest. - Nick Ford, Aseasuk News 49 (2011)
Robert Cribb grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and spent much time as a child wandering the bush and the Barrier Reef with his botanist parents. A keen appreciation of the environmental and geographical dimensions of history still informs much of his research and writings.
