Taking cues from the Japanese concept of ethical or stakeholder capitalism, the chapters in this book demonstrate that the business activities of firms in Thailand and Indonesia are in various ways shaped by and explained through their perceptions of morality in business and society, and concerns about the environment. Often, these perceptions that these firms have framed and adhere to are their own responses to the dynamic political, social and economic factors that have influenced the business environments of both countries.
"This book, written by authoritative authors in the field, is a most comprehensive collection of ethics, business practices and societal values in contemporary Southeast Asia, with a focus on Indonesia and Thailand. The analyses within offer both philosophical and empirical underpinnings for future research directions, and policies in the areas of environment, social context and governance."
- Tirta Mursitama, Collaboration and Global Engagement, Bina Nusantara University
"This insightful book thoroughly examines the intricate balance that businesses need to strike between pursuing profits and upholding ethical standards for long-term sustainability. It presents a compelling exploration of how businesses can navigate these challenges, with a specific focus on the context of Thailand and Indonesia, characterized by concentrated ownership, i.e., family ownership."
- Cynthia A. Utama, Department of Management, University of Indonesia
